TravelMole is extremely pleased to announce its Official Media Sponsorship of The Australia Chapter of the International Institute for Peace through Tourism’s third Australian Conference being held on Saturday, 15 July 2006 at the Avillion Hotel Sydney.

The theme of the conference, Tourism – Agent for Peace? follows two earlier Australian conferences, Tourism – Passport to Peace in March 2003 and Travel Promotes Peace – Meeting the Challenge in September 2004.

IIPT is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering travel and tourism initiatives that contribute to international understanding and cooperation, an improved quality of environment, the preservation of heritage and poverty reduction.

It was founded in 1986 by Louis D’Amore and is based on his vision of the world’s largest industry, travel and tourism, becoming the world’s first global peace industry and the belief that every traveller is potentially an “Ambassador for Peace”.

IIPT Australia Chapter President, Daphne Lowe Kelley said, “The focus of this conference will be an examination of the role of tourism as an agent for peace, in addition to encouraging travel companies, tourism organizations and those who work in the industry to serve a higher purpose and think and act beyond the commercial aspects of their business”.

She added, “It will also ask the question if travellers and tourists or the host communities aware of the important role they can play in creating a more equitable and peaceful world?”

Speakers will include industry executives, academics, travellers and IIPT’s founder and president, Louis D’Amore, who is travelling from New York for the conference, which is endorsed by the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) and its CEO Mike Hatton, who will be one of the keynote speakers.

Daphne Lowe Kelley added, “Registration charges have not increased since the 2004 conference at $A75 for IIPT members, $A95 for non-members and $A55 for students (includes arrival refreshments, morning and afternoon teas and lunch).

In addition, on July 14 the Friday evening preceding the conference, Australia Travel & Tourism Professionals will host a welcome function for delegates.
