Travelocity reaches mega deal with AARP
Travelocity reached a major agreement with AARP to make it the travel supplier for its 35-million members.
Travelocity will supply flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, last minute getaways and dynamic packing products for the association.
The new service, “AARP Passport Powered by Technology,” will offer comprehensive options for AARP members who in 2003 alone booked more than $1 billion in travel.
Said Richard Harris, vice president of strategy and business development for Travelocity:
“At Travelocity, we have for some time realized the value and potential of reaching the 50+ population. Through this agreement, we are now able to more effectively reach an underserved, yet very important, growing segment in the marketplace. ”
He said in addition to offering AARP members the traditional tools and technology of Travelocity, they will also have access to discounted rates and benefits not previously available to members.
Currently, AARP members deal directly with multiple travel suppliers to claim membership discounts.
Travelocity has thousands of travel suppliers worldwide through the Sabre Global Distribution System.
Travelocity also continues to leverage subsidiary Site59’s experience as an Application Service Provider (ASP) for a number of travel-related Web sites.
With 44 million registered users, Travelocity booked nearly $4 billion in travel last year.
Launch date has been tentatively set for spring of next year.
