Travelzoo survey brings good news
Europeans plan to travel at least once in the first half of this year – matching 2008’s intentions exactly, according to a new survey.
And, according to the research conducted by internet media company Travelzoo, just over 35% says they will take two or more leisure trips in the next six months.
Travelzoo’s Subscriber Survey, which was sent out by email to 200,000 subscribers in the UK, Germany, France and Spain and garnered 6146 responses, found that 95% of its 2,200,000 European subscribers plan to take a break between now and the end of June, spending £4.5 billion.
Germans will spend the most per trip, an average of £560, while the British, Spanish and French will spend an average of £478, £502 and £491 respectively.
The results showed that German and British subscribers book the most ahead (three months) while the Spanish are the last minute merchants, leaving just four weeks to book their hols.
Managing director of Travelzoo in Europe Chris Loughlin said: “The survey results bring some much needed good news for travel companies across Europe. Travelzoo’s European subscribers plan to spend as much as £4.5 billion on leisure travel in the first half of 2009, despite the credit crunch.”
