TUI removes Cancun hotel from sale after pictures show it's far from ready

TUI has removed a hotel in Cancun from sale after it emerged that it is still a building site despite being scheduled to open in just 11 weeks.

It is now contacting customers booked at the Senator Rivera Cancun Resort from mid April to offer them an alternative holiday.

"We would like to apologise to customers affected by the unexpected delayed opening of the new Senator Rivera Cancun Resort in Mexico. We are contacting every customer affected by this change directly to help find them an alternative holiday," said a TUI spokesman.

"We would like to thank customers for their patience while we confirm the details behind the scenes and while we prioritise contacting those customers with the most imminent departure dates."

TUI took action after guests due to stay at the all-inclusive resort took screen shots from an Instagram video posted by the hotels’ architect.

The video showed the resort being far from ready, prompting worried customers to contact the travel giant.

The hotel is still showing on TUI’s website but rooms can no longer be booked.

Its owners are now aiming for a November opening.
