UAE expands visa-on-arrival program for six more countries

The United Arab Emirates has significantly expanded its visa-on-arrival program, opening the door to easier travel for eligible visitors from six additional countries as it continues to strengthen its position as a leading global tourism and business hub.

Effective immediately, citizens of Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Kenya, and South Africa can obtain a visa upon arrival in the UAE, provided they also hold a valid residence permit, visa, or permanent residency issued by the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, any European Union member state, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, or South Korea. The new rules also apply to accompanying family members.

Travelers have then two visa options upon arrival. A 14-day visa costs about US$27 (DH100) and can be extended once for an additional 14 days. Alternatively, visitors may choose a non-extendable 60-day visa priced at approximately US$68 (DH250).

The policy is designed to simplify entry procedures while encouraging tourism, business travel, and investment. UAE authorities say the expansion also reflects the country’s broader strategy to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties with fast-growing markets across Asia and Africa. More than a dozen airlines already link either Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Sharjah to the six selected countries, including low-cost carriers. Industry analysts expect the simplified entry process to stimulate both leisure and business travel while supporting airline demand.

The move builds on a series of immigration reforms introduced by the UAE over the past several years, including expanded long-term residency options, new visa categories, and broader eligibility for visa-on-arrival programs. The government continues to position the country as an accessible destination for tourists, investors, skilled professionals, and international businesses.

For the travel industry, the latest expansion is expected to generate additional inbound demand, particularly from Southeast Asia and Africa. It will even make last-minute travel to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the other emirates considerably easier for eligible visitors.
