Ride sharing app Uber is following United Airlines’ lead in luring friendly hackers to help identify bugs and security issues in its app code.
Whereas United offers up to one million frequent flyer miles to hackers, Uber will hand out hard cash.
Uber’s bug bounty program will pay up to $10,000 for critical flaws found that will go toward improving security.
"This bug bounty program will help ensure that our code is as secure as possible. And our unique loyalty scheme will encourage the security community to become experts when it comes to Uber," said Joe Sullivan, the company’s chief security officer.
A year ago Uber was hit with a data breach which compromised the personal information of up to 50,000 current and former drivers.
