Union sues Southwest over Covid related pay changes
Southwest Airlines’ pilot union is suing the carrier, saying it changed pay rates and working conditions, in violation of federal labor laws.
The Southwest Airlines Pilots Association filed a lawsuit, in federal district court in Dallas. The airline defends its actions by saying it was reacting to ‘unpredictable challenges’ and argues the Covid-related unilateral changes don’t require negotiations.
The airline is heavily unionized with about 83% of its 56,000 employees union members.
