United Airlines sued over death of giant rabbit

The owners of tragic giant rabbit Simon have filed a lawsuit against United Airlines over the bunny’s death.

Three Iowa businessmen were to be Simon’s new owners, and allege United Airlines was culpable in the rabbit’s demise.

Simon was found lifeless in a kennel in Chicago while awaiting a connecting flight to Kansas City.

The lawsuit by Mark Oman, Steve Bruere, and Duke Reichardt claims United was negligent in the care and transportation of the meter-long rabbit.

"They’re frustrated with how United has handled this from the start," said attorney Guy Cook representing the three plaintiffs.

The lawsuit alleges United has a poor record in animal care on flights, saying it accounts for a third of all animal deaths in US air travel in the last five years.

"We were saddened by Simon’s death in April. We have received this complaint and are currently reviewing it," said United spokesman Charles Hobart.

The three businessmen said they bought Simon from a UK breeder in order to show him at the Iowa State Fair. They planned to produce Simon related merchandise to raise funds for the state fair.

The three men plan to donate any lawsuit award to a state fair foundation, Cook said.
