United delays new Tokyo service

Tuesday, 02 Apr, 2013 0

The troubles of the Boeing 787 have caused United Airlines to postpone the launch of its Dreamliner service to Tokyo.

Flights on the new service from Denver to Tokyo were to begin on Sunday, but now the date has been pushed back to June 10.

The FAA has grounded all 787s following two fires in January in the batteries of new long-haul widebody planes. The cause of the fires, one in the air and one on a parked plane in Boston Airport, have not yet been determined.

United had originally hoped the FAA would have okayed the use of the 787 by now. But it said on Friday that it is still waiting "while the FAA and Boeing work to certify a solution."

United bought six 787s for its Dreamliner service.
