An American passenger was taken off a United Airlines flight bound for Hong Kong for ‘unruly’ behaviour after the plane was forced to divert to Japan.
United Airlines Flight 895 departed Chicago for Hong Kong and about 12 hours into the flight the man attempted to access the cockpit, the Japan Times reports.
He was subdued by crew members and handed over to local police when the flight diverted to Tokyo Narita airport.
"We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience caused. The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority," United Airlines spokesman Chris Hobart said.
The plane was carrying 241 passengers and 15 crew members and no injuries were reported.
United declined to confirm reports an attempt was made to enter the cockpit.
The Japan Times report added the passenger had consumed medication before and told police he had no recollection of his subsequent actions.
