US confusion leads to cheapnights rebrand

Cheapnights.com is to be rebranded because of some unfortunate confusion in the US about what it actually sells.

The site will be renamed Cheapaccommodation.com. Head of Cheapaccommodation.com Karen Plumb told TravelMole: “The problem is [in the US] they took the name quite literally. The new name reflects what we do and is also search engine friendly.”

Ms Plumb declined to be pinned down on the specifics of the mix-up adding: “They didn’t know what we did. [For example] we could have been a pub or restaurant site, or sold theatre tickets.”

Building on the success of its sister site cheapflights.co.uk, the cheapflights.com site was recently launched in the US. Ms Plumb said this meant cheapnights was getting more US visitors and so the confusion had to be addressed.

The advertising-based site features prices from over 175 providers with offers displayed by accommodation type and by destination. New features introduced to coincide with the rebranding include guideline conversion rates in dollars, pounds sterling and euros.
