US lost 5.6 million travel related jobs in 2020
Spending on travel fell by 42% last year in the US due to lockdowns and travel restrictions. It led to the loss of about 5.6 million jobs which are supported by the travel industry. That leaves just 11.1 million jobs in the sector, the U.S. Travel Association says.
Americans spent $1.1 trillion less on travel last year and a full recovery is still some time off.
"While the gradual progress of vaccinations has provided hope that a turnaround may be on the horizon, it is still unclear when travel demand will be able to fully rebound on its own," says U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow.
