US National Park Service urged to communicate
This year is shaping up as a record time for US travel but international visitors are at all time low, Scott Ahlsmith said in testimony to the US Congress.
“International visitation creates more than entrance fees and revenues for businesses adjacent to our national parks. It creates jobs, economic growth and tax revenue,” said Mr Ahlsmith, who is CEO of the Magellan Travel Group and chairman of The Travel Institute.
He told the House subcommittee on National Parks there is a “silo mentality” between retail travel companies and the National Park Service.
“The National Park Service and the global travel industry do not talk with one another,” he said.
His suggestion:
“A series of planning, marketing and operation caucuses could help known down the ideological silos and generate incremental revenue while protecting the gifts nature has given us.”
