US pilot arrested at Newark for cash smuggling

A US airline pilot has been arrested and charged with attempting to smuggle a large amount of cash into the country.
Anthony Warner, 55, of Dallas, Texas was caught with $195,736 in undeclared currency at Newark Liberty Airport, authorities said, and was charged with one count of bulk cash smuggling and one count of making false statements.
Warner arrived at Newark as a passenger from Mumbai an holds a US Customs and Border Protection Global Entry Card which gives expidited clearance upon arrival in the US as a pre-approved traveler.
However the Global Entry computer system was offline and upon screening a CBP officer discovered the cash hidden in a laptop bag along with several items of jewelry.
If convicted on both counts Warner could face a prison sentence of up to seven years and a fine of $250,000.
Court documents did not disclose which airline Warner is employed by.
