W to enter Vegas with casino property

Starwood Hotels is to open a W Hotels casino-resort property in Las Vegas at a cost of $1.7 billion.

The W Las Vegas Hotel, Casino and Residences, due to open in 2008, will offer a mix of 3,000 apartments, residential units and traditional rooms. The condominiums will cost from $550,000.

The property is to be developed as a joint venture on 21 acres of land recently purchased for more than $108 million, 500 metres from the Las Vegas Strip. It will feature a 75,000 square foot casino, more than 10 dining and nightlife options, a spa and gym.
