Walt Disney Travel Company drops air-inclusive packages
The Walt Disney Travel Company has announced it is to drop flights from its product portfolio for 2003. The company will concentrate on its hotels and theme park business, “in line with consumer demand”.
The company said in a statement that for 2003 it will sell Walt Disney World Resort hotels and multi-day theme park tickets on a land package basis, along with land-only packages for off-site properties in the Orlando area.
Andrew Waller, UK Director Walt Disney Travel Company, said: “There is significant and growing demand for à la carte components, in addition to traditional inclusive packages, from a rapidly growing number of people who travel independently. Modifying our product portfolio allows us to operate our own hotel reservation centre and to address this demand, focusing on selling our own products and not offering other readily available non-Disney elements such as air and car rental etc.
“We are in the hotel and theme park business and our plans for the Walt Disney Travel Company will support us in growing the market ex UK to Walt Disney World Resort, regardless of how customers choose to buy their flight.”
The company will continue to sell and operate its current air-inclusive programme for departures through to 31 December 2002. Air-inclusive departures for 01 January to 30 April 2003 are being taken off sale. Customers who have already booked air-inclusive departures in the period 01 January to 30 April 2003 will have their holidays re-protected with an alternative operator.
