Warning over more BA flight chaos
The boss of a union embroiled in a dispute over sacked workers at an airline catering company has warned of further British Airways flight disruption.
Transport & General Workers’ Union boss Tony Woodley made the claim on the BBC Today programme, saying that BA would be “severely, severely affected” unless the airline helped resolve the situation.
The union is fighting to have 670 workers reinstated at BA’s in-flight food supplier Gate Gourmet, after they were dismissed two weeks ago.
The company’s action led to a two day walk-out in sympathy by hundreds of BA ground staff at Heathrow, grounding services and leaving tens of thousands of passengers stranded.
Meanwhile, Gate Gourmet’s UK arm is reportedly facing administration, with director Andy Cook reportedly saying the business is “not a viable commercial organisation”.
The company is providing hot means on BA long haul flights for the first time in 12 days.
