WHO declares monkeypox a global health emergency
Present in over third of all countries, World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared monkeypox a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
These WHO alerts relate to ‘an extraordinary event that is serious, sudden, unusual, or unexpected.’
There have been more than 14,500 cases of monkeypox this year.
“For the moment the vast majority of cases continue to be reported among men who have sex with men,” Dr. Tedros said
“This transmission pattern represents both an opportunity to implement targeted public health interventions and a challenge, because in some countries the communities affected face life-threatening discrimination.”
The numbers presented by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are even higher than the WHO figures. The CDC reports a total of 15,848 monkeypox cases in 72 countries.
Although the monkeypox virus has spread beyond Africa before, the current wave is unprecedented, said infectious diseases doctor Camille Besombes.
Since the weekend it has been detected for the first-time in Thailand Cambodia and Japan
Infections have been recorded in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, the US, and Venezuela.
Non-endemic countries with the most cases are Spain the and Germany, all with over 2,000 cases.
“As the outbreak develops, it’s important to assess the effectiveness of public health interventions in different settings, to better understand what works, and what doesn’t,” Dr. Tedros said.

Another fear mongering action by WHO. As of 2020 there were 7.753 Billion People on Earth. There are only 16,000 confirmed cases of MP. That's 0.00020637172707339% of the entire world population. Please be responsible, and stop trying to scare, and make the world's citizens afraid of something they should not be since the overwhelming majority will never be exposed.
