Woman admits trying to open door on Jet2 flight

A woman has pleaded guilty to attempting to open an aeroplane door during a Jet2 flight, prompting two RAF fighter jets to be scrambled.

Chloe Haines, 26, of High Wycombe, also admitted scratching a crew member who tried to stop her from opening the door on the flight from Stansted to Dalaman in June.

Two RAF Typhoon fighter jets escorted the plane back to Stansted, prompting a sonic boom so loud that people called 999, fearing an explosion.

Haines admitted two charges of assault and endangering the safety of an aircraft when she appeared in court on Monday.

Her defence barrister Oliver Saxby told the court there was ‘no question’ Haines was drunk at the time and said she was a ‘troubled young person’ with a number of serious issues.

She is due to be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on January 24.

As part of her bail conditions she is banned from travelling from any UK airport.
