Yorkshire and Scotland have both been named as ‘must visit’ destinations for next year.
Yorkshire came third in the Lonely Planet top-10 regions to visit, while Scotland took the same position in the top-10 countries list.
Scotland was named partly because it will host the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles next year, while Yorkshire was chosen because of its "rugged moorlands, heritage homes and cosy pubs" as well as the fact that Leeds will host next year’s Tour de France’s grand depart.

Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive Gary Verity told the BBC: "Endorsements rarely come much better than this from a guide that has a worldwide reputation.
"This is massive for Yorkshire."
Liverpool’s Cavern Club, Abbey Road and Savile Row in London are also mentioned as places to visit in the Lonely Planet guide.
However, no UK city made it into the Lonely Planet top-10 cities list, which put Paris at number one.
