Conditions across the Alps are excellent for the half-term holidays, with fresh snow reported across the mountain range and more expected to fall this week.
Temperatures are set to remain well below freezing so snow conditions should remain soft, dry and fresh.
Some great skiing is also on offer in the Pyrenees, with fresh snow falling at many resorts over the weekend. The Grandvalira area in Andorra opened fully for the first time this season on Saturday, highlighting the improvement that the fresh snow has brought in recent days.
Conditions were just as good in Scandinavia, especially in Sweden and Finland where between 10 and 20cm of new snow fell over the weekend. Norway was also skiing very well, with excellent piste conditions being reported across the country thanks to last week’s snow and continued cold weather.
Great conditions were also reported in Scotland just in time for the arrival of the half-term crowds. Glenshee was open out as far as Glas Maol, all available lifts were running and Glencoe and the Lecht, the Back Corries were open at Nevis Range and more runs have opened in recent days at Cairngorm. Further snow is expected throughout the week which is great news and should only go to further improve the conditions.
Sadly conditions in Eastern Europe have taken a hit in recent days following a mild southerly airflow taking hold across much of the region. Expect spring-like conditions both on and off piste as temperatures hit as high as +10C in parts of Bulgaria and at Sochi in Russia.
Improving conditions are prevalent across much of the USA and Canada currently after some decent snow fell over the course of the weekend. With plenty more expected over the coming week, expect conditions to only further improve.
Similarly on the east coast, low temperatures and some good light snowfall over the course of the week has ensure that good skiing is available in many of our featured resorts currently. Snow showers are expected over the course of the week which should ensure that we see improving conditions throughout the region over the coming days.
