Zuji customers fear for their refunds after travel agency license expires

The demise of online travel agent Zuji looks to be confirmed after it allowed its Hong Kong travel agency license to expire without renewing.

The company shuttered its Singapore office weeks ago and said it would then focus on operations in Hong Kong.

Its website has been down since November so the company could conduct ‘new website development,’ a claim few people believed.

At the time it said: "We aim to launch our new website in early Q1 2019. All passengers who have purchased from us should not be affected."

Zuji lost its IATA designation for centralised air ticket billing due to missed payments, and customers fear they will struggle to get refunds from the company, especially after allowing its license to expire.

The Hong Kong Travel Industry Council (TAR), which regulates travel agents, said there were at least 25 cases against Zuji seeking refunds for a combined HK$250,000.

A TAR spokesman said Zuji can no longer function as a travel agent but will honour bookings made on its website.

In a Facebook post Zuji apologised for difficulties in refunding customers due to ‘technical difficulties.’

According to local media reports, there are clients who are still awaiting refunds after applying for them up to four months ago.
