A classic experience in Halong Bay
HALONG BAY – The mysterious World Heritage area of Halong Bay – where much of the movie Indochine was filmed in 1991 – is drawing waves of tourists to the north east of Vietnam.
Hotel development in the area has been slow to take off but with an InterContinental hotel due to open next year, the luxury hotels are taking note of the potential of Halong Bay, which is approximately three hours by road from Hanoi.
For one of the best experiences on Halong Bay, Emeraude Classical Tours offers overnight trips on a replica heritage steamer, leaving port around noon and returning mid-morning the following day.
Lunch, dinner and breakfast is included on the trip, along with entertainment such as a cooking class and a film night showing
Indochine with Catherine Denueve.
Kurt Walter is general manager of The Press Club in Hanoi, which – like Emeraude Classic Cruises – is owned by the Vietnam-based Apple Tree Group.
Walter says that the Emeraude is enjoying its best business ever and like tourism to Vietnam “things are only going to get better”.
Walter says the Emeraude experience can be tailored for guests, especially for groups who can charter the entire 36 cabins and three suites.
Wine tastings, musical evenings and gala dinners can be included on the itinerary.
