Air Canada will jet off to New Zealand later this year with non-stop, seasonal flights between Vancouver and Auckland.
The transpacific route begins on December 12, 2019 through the end of March 2020.
Flights have been timed to connect with the airline’s Vancouver schedule to destinations across North America.
"We are delighted to add Auckland as we continue strategically expanding Air Canada’s international network and increasing its presence in the Asia-Pacific market," said Lucie Guillemette, EVP and chief commercial officer at Air Canada.
The new route marks a commitment to pursue a joint venture tie-up with Star Alliance partner Air New Zealand.
The two carriers signed off on a Memorandum of Understanding.
They have been codeshare partners for many years.
"We look forward to deepening our relationship and optimizing out far-reaching transpacific network cooperation," said Air Canada VP of alliances, John MacLeod.
According to the NZ tourism ministry, more than 70,000 Canadians visited New Zealand last year, staying for an average of 19 days.
