Air China gets green light for San Jose flights

Sunday, 14 Apr, 2016 0
Air China has finally got the green light to fly direct from Shanghai to Silicon Valley.

US federal regulators approved the three times a week service which will begin in June to Mineta San Jose International Airport.

The carrier will operate Airbus A330 aircraft on the route.

"As home to the world’s largest high-tech companies and start-ups, Silicon Valley is Shanghai’s soul mate in the west," said said Lillibeth C. Bishop, Air China’s senior director of marketing and public relations, North America.

"They are the centers of innovation in their respective countries."

San Jose City Council planned financial incentives to attract the carrier which includes waiving landing fees for 18 months, and waiving ticket counter and gate fees.

These measures are likely to be approved by city officials next week.

Fellow Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines launched its first nonstop flight from Beijing last year to San Jose.

The airport has also attracted several other long haul routes to London, Frankfurt and Vancouver which are due to launch in the coming months.
