Air India censured over flight duty violations

India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), gave Air India a stern warning over its ‘unsatisfactory’ response over charges it violated flight duty time limits.

The airline’s CEO, Campbell Wilson was issued the warning.

The regulator cited violations on two long-haul flights operated earlier this year.

It found flights between Bengaluru and London exceeded the 10-hour maximum duty limit.

“Accountable Manager is hereby warned and advised to exercise utmost diligence and responsibility in ensuring strict compliance with the applicable Civil Aviation requirements,” the notice said.

The DGCA had issued a show-cause notice to the airline several weeks ago seeking a full explanation.

The regulator said the airline’s response did not properly address the lapses.

Air India claimed the issue was over a ‘different interpretation’ of the rule which it says it has now resolved.

“This was corrected immediately after the right interpretation was conveyed to us. Air India remains fully compliant with the rules.”
