Air India wants to join the race to be the operator of the world’s longest non-stop commercial flight.
The national carrier is mulling a direct Bangalore-San Francisco flight at a distance of nearly 14,000 km.
A senior Air India official said both Bangalore and Delhi are being considered for the San Francisco route.
If it opts for the Bangalore option, the flight time would be nearly 18 hours.
The current holder of the longest flight is Qantas on its Sydney-Dallas Fort Worth route which is a 13,730 km journey, although that will be eclipsed when Emirates starts Dubai to Panama City flights next year, flying a total of 13,760 km.
The new flight announcement could be made this week during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US this week, a Times of India report said.
