Air Mandalay ceases all flight operations
A second airline in Myanmar has ceased operations in little more than two months.
Citing challenging conditions due to the high cost of jet fuel, Air Mandalay has indefinitely suspended all operations.
It may resume services in the near future pending a restructuring and if market conditions improve.
It comes just a few weeks after FMI Air ceased operations citing similar difficulties.
"It is increasingly challenging to operate in Myanmar’s aviation sector," Air Mandalay spokesperson Daw May Thandar Win said.
"Air Mandalay is presently working closely with the government to resolve a number of issues affecting the airline and the aviation industry. The first priority for the airline is to look after the welfare of its employees and their job security," she said.
Customers with booked tickets will get a full refund, the airline said.
A number of other airlines have gone under in recent years in a heavily saturated market.
There are about 10 domestic airlines competing for a potential market of only two to three million domestic and foreign air travellers.
