Air NZ halts Noumea flights through September
Air New Zealand has suspended Noumea flights from Auckland until the end of September due to the ongoing civil unrest in New Caledonia.
The airline’s GM of short-haul, Jeremy O’Brien, cited the ongoing closure of the airport and uncertainty over safety for halting the service.
The airline is committed to resuming services after September 28.
Air NZ the suspension of Noumea flights has only impacted about 1,000 customers.
When unrest caused the closure of the airport, over 200 Kiwis were stranded.
The New Zealand Defence Force stepped in to operate evacuation flights to bring them back home.
Customers with bookings to Nouméa will have their flights held in credit or can opt for a full refund.
Those who booked through a travel agent are advised to contact their agent directly.
“We’d like to thank customers in advance for their patience and understanding at this time,” the airline said.

As usual both Sydney and Brisbane pax are looked after with Virgin direct flights to Noumea while Air CAL is not operating but Melbourne people are denied direct flight alternatives. We therefore have to endure the hassle of taking domestic flights to Sydney or Brisbane to catch flights to Noumea. Sydney especially is the pits when one has to bus from domestic to international terminals. People complain about LAX. It is a dream compared to transiting through SYD.
