Airbus patents interactive windows
The launch of Periscope, the new must-have live-streaming app, has created even more ways to explore the globe using just your phone. To mark its launch this week, the new app teamed up with travel price comparison website Skyscanner and a group of travel bloggers, for a 24 hour live broadcasting challenge. From Madeira to Mumbai, Toronto to Tokyo the bloggers were tasked with bringing users of the app a new destination every hour, showcasing the best things about each city, and creating inspiration for potential trips. The SkyScanner account averaged 500 viewers per session and received 16,000 hearts – the app’s ‘like’ equivalent – that’s a lot of love.
American Airlines recently introduced a new genre of in-flight music, much to the delight of travellers. The new onboard playlist now includes indie music from The xx, Hozier and Phantogram. Passengers have been complimenting American Airlines on their music style on Twitter with one user labelling the switch in genre as ‘the best part of our first long flight’. A representative for American Airlines said ‘for 2015, they sought out a style of music that’s upbeat yet not distracting’. There have even been reports of passengers using music discovery app ‘Shazam‘ to identify the songs playing on their flight.
The future is now! Aerospace design and manufacturing company Airbus has patented the very high-tech idea of interactive windows. Passengers will be able to learn about the world below them using innovative touchscreen technology. Flying over famous sites such as the Colosseum or The Statue of Liberty while learning about how it was built and why, with just a tap, is the vision for future planes. With the addition of more space to stretch out onboard, we just can’t wait until this takes off!
Social media is a great tool for re-connecting old friends and making new ones, however this week an Australian woman on holiday in Bali took to social media in an attempt to reunite someone with an engraved gold ring that she found whilst snorkelling. Roxy Walsh shared the image of the ring on both Instagram and Facebook hoping to find the owner. The Facebook post has since been shared by more than 23,000 people, while over on Instagram, popular website ‘the Bali Bible’ also shared the photo and received over 7,500 likes. No news on a happy ending to this one as yet, but we remain hopeful.
