Airline blunder gives passengers zero fares

Friday, 13 September 20133 min read

United joined the ranks of low-fare airlines for a couple of hours yesterday when it accidentally loaded $0 fares into its computer system and sold them on its website.

Even with airport charges, some passengers — United said it doesn’t know exactly how many — got tickets for just $5 or $10.

Word spread on Twitter and United eventually got wind of what was happening and shut the website down "for a couple of hours."

The site was back up — and so were the prices — by about 2:30 pm New York time.

United said it has not yet decided if it will honour the tickets.
