Airline passenger complaints up in 2023
Air traveler complaints were up last year to nearly 90,000.
The U.S. Transportation Department received a total of 97,000 submissions, with the vast majority complaints about various issues such as delays, flight cancellations and disabled passenger service standards.
There were 86,000 total submissions in 2022.
It was the highest number of air travel complaints since 2020 amid complaints about Covid cancelation refunds and vouchers.
Last year the flight delay rate was 21% of all flights.
About a quarter of complaints last year involved overseas based airlines.
Complaints of airline discrimination was up sharply although it remains a small proportion of total airline complaints.
