Airlines to continue mandating masks on flights

Saturday, 06 Jul, 2021 0

Airlines have said they will keep ordering passengers to mask up on flights.

Ryanair and easyJet said mask wearing on flights will still be mandatory and they have no immediate plans to drop the requirement after Freedom Day.

It comes after PM Boris Johnson outlined plans to end most Covid restrictions including the requirement to wear masks in shops and on public transport.

"At present there are no changes to easyJet’s onboard mask policy and we will continue to keep this under review," easyJet said.

"We continue to be guided by our in-house medical adviser and a number of key industry governing bodies that airlines follow."

Ryanair also said masks will remain mandatory ‘regardless of the departing/destination country.’

The medical community has opposed the mask wearing relaxation which will be downgraded to a ‘recommendation.’

Current social distancing restrictions will also be scrapped later this month.

It will allow all remaining businesses to reopen including nightclubs, and there will be no maximum limits on social gatherings.

Additionally, there will be no requirement to work from home.

A number of government officials and ministers have stated they intend to ditch their masks from 19 July.
