American Airlines is adding two new routes connecting the US Virgin Islands to its Chicago and Dallas Fort Worth hubs.
It is launching two new weekly flights to St Thomas beginning on December 21 which will operate each Saturday.
Flights from Chicago will be operated by Airbus A319 jets and from Dallas on a 176-seat Boeing 757..
"These two new St. Thomas routes will not only promote travel and tourism to the island, but they’ll also provide our local customers with one-stop access to the network we operate out of our Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago hubs," said Alfredo Gonzalez, American’s managing director for the Caribbean.
While the Chicago route is seasonal, flights from Dallas are year-round.
Delta Air Lines is also expanding airlift to St Thomas with a second daily flight from Atlanta, and United will expand its Houston-St Thomas route to daily service from next month.
"We are delighted with the confidence our airline partners have expressed in our destination," said USVI tourism commissioner nominee Joseph Boschulte.
American’s new flights are part of a major network expansion just announced covering 16 routes to the Caribbean, Mexico and domestically.
