American Airlines expands pre-travel testing program across US
American Airlines is ramping up pre-travel testing, offering at-home testing kits for all domestic flights bound for states with Covid-19 travel restrictions.
Tests are now available for purchase for travel starting 12 December through healthcare partner LetsGetChecked.
Current cities, states and territories with restrictions in place include Alaska, Chicago, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, New York, Maine and Maryland.
"We’ve made great strides to help open international travel and we recognize the need for similar domestic travel solutions. As travel requirements evolve, we’re simplifying the research and Covid-19 testing fulfillment process for an overall more seamless travel experience," said Alison Taylor, Chief Customer Officer for American Airlines.
American will work with LetsGetChecked to expand domestic testing capabilities as states around the country add or adjust restrictions.
The at-home Covid-19 test involves a nasal swab and PCR lab analysis which produces a result on average within 48 hours upon receipt of the test in the lab.
Customers can stay updated on local travel requirements through American’s travel tool, which is powered by Sherpa.
It simplifies travel planning by offering a destination-specific overview of local restrictions from face coverings, to health documentation and quarantine requirements.
