Another African nation unveils its Convention Bureau

The last edition of IMEX Frankfurt witnessed the international debut of the newly launched Angola Convention Bureau (ACB). The ACB signals the country’s ambitions to become a rising player in the global meetings and events sector.

Positioning Angola as “The Meeting Room in Africa,” the bureau is promoting the destination as an emerging MICE hub backed by major infrastructure investment and expanding international connectivity.

The appearance at IMEX comes just weeks after the official launch of the Angola Convention Bureau on May 6 in Luanda and marks a key step in the country’s strategy to attract more international conferences, exhibitions and corporate events.

At IMEX Frankfurt, the ACB was joined by 11 co-exhibitors at booth C510, showcasing Angola’s growing business events portfolio. The delegation included destination management companies, hotels, event agencies and representatives of the new Luanda convention center, which is scheduled to open later this year.

Senior government and industry leaders also attended the show, including Angola’s Minister of Tourism, Márcio de Jesus Lopes Daniel, and Margarida Gorjão-Henriques, who also heads the Angola office of the KLEBER Group.

The bureau’s launch supports Angola’s broader economic strategy to grow the meetings industry as a driver of tourism and investment.

Among the country’s major infrastructure projects is the new Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, designed to handle up to 15 million passengers annually. Angola is also preparing to open a new convention center in Luanda with capacity for up to 3,000 delegates.

The establishment of the Angola Convention Bureau is an important milestone in the development of the country’s MICE market,” said Julia Kleber.

IMEX Frankfurt 2026 provides the ideal platform to showcase Angola’s entry into the global meetings market and highlight its growing potential as a business events destination.

Under its “The Meeting Room in Africa” campaign, Angola is emphasizing its combination of modern infrastructure, improving air access and rich cultural and natural attractions.

The country says business travel arrivals from Europe increased from 45,757 in 2024 to 59,750 in 2025, reflecting growing international interest in the destination.

The Angola Convention Bureau will serve as a central link between international event organizers, government agencies and private-sector partners as it works to secure more global meetings and conferences for the country.
