Auctioning tours?
TravelMole North America says that Adventure tour operator Boundless Journeys described customer response to its new online auction as “thrilling.”
“The response was immediate,” said company President Matt Holmes, “Our travelers were thrilled by the opportunity to make a bid on a dream trip that may previously have been out of their reach price-wise.”
The company’s newsletter asked readers to “make your best offer” on two popular Latin America tours, one a Galapagos Islands nature cruise and the other a hiking tour in Chile.
“It really is a win-win situation; we get to fill a couple of vacant slots, and our guests get to take advantage of an amazing deal,” said Mr Holmes.
The competition was fierce, according to company officials, but in both cases the winning bids were between 25-40% below the listed price of the trip.
“It wouldn’t be a viable policy to do it for every trip, but now and then there is a perfect opportunity to share a good deal with our guests,” added Mr Holmes.
