Bali immigration snaps to attention

Wednesday, 25 November 20093 min read

DENPASAR – Indonesia’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik, and the Minister of Law and Human Rights, Patrialis Akbar, conducted a snap inspection of the visa-on-arrival (VOA) procedures at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport last weekend.

Bali Update (www.balidiscovery.com) said during the inspections, the two cabinet ministers had a close look at the immigration desks used for VOA and the long lines that occur when several flights arrive at the same time.

When the ministers reviewed the 26 immigration desks in operation they found a number with faulty equipment, including six with broken computers.

TravelMole, having travelled through Denpasar airport on many occasions, wonders how “snap” the inspection was given that – quite unusually – all 26 immigration desks were staffed on this occasion.

The Minister of Law and Human Rights promised to replace broken computers and other non-operating equipment to improve service.

“Bali’s victories are Indonesia’s victories. Because of this, we must give the best service,” explained Akbar.

Wacik bravely said the new target for processing passengers at Bali airport would be 15 minutes from disembarking an airplane until boarding an airport taxi.
