Batik Air to launch Bali-Perth flights next month
After a number of delays, Indonesia’s Batik Air will launch double daily flights on the ultra-competitive Perth-Bali route from next month.
Batik confirmed the service to Perth would go ahead from June 21 using 173-seat Boeing 737s.
Although Batik Air is a full service carrier, it sees a gap in the market after LCC Tigerair pulled out earlier this year after Indonesia revoked its permit.
Batik, which is part of Indonesia’s Lion Air Group, secured regulatory approval from Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority last year.
Meanwhile another Lion Air backed carrier, Kuala Lumpur based Malindo Air, will be renamed to Batik Air Malaysia.
This is primarily to allign it more closely with the Indonesia carrier, which will provide mostly feeder flights to complement Batik Air Malaysia’s international services out of KL.
The rebranding will be completed later this year, Malindo Air chief executive Chandran Rama Muthy said.
