Bear-viewing trails among new tour offerings
Alaska Discovery, a Mountain Travel Sobek company recognized as among the premier wilderness guides in Alaska, has introduced new tours that include bear-viewing trails and glacier-trekking.
Said Sharon Gaiptman, marketing manager:
“In addition to the trips that have sustained the company for more than 30 years such as sea kayaking in Glacier Bay and rafting the Alsek and our arctic hiking, rafting and canoe programs, we’ve put together some new itineraries to reach out to more of Alaska’s visitors.”
The new trips are for most ages and skill levels, she said.
One new trip has two nights of camping, but the majority of the trips are “inn-to-inn based.”
“They provide our trip members with the chance to be active by day, while enjoying small hotels, inns and B&B’s each evening,” said Ms Gaiptman.
She said one trend is shorter trips, both for the new offerings and older ones as well.
“Many people want to squeeze in as much as possible when they come to Alaska,” she said.
The company now offers three-day glacier sea-kayaking and bear-viewing trips, but also has expeditions as long as nine days.
Tours originate in various cities, including Anchorage, Homer and Juneau.
