Bmi welcomes open skies progress
Bmi has welcomed what it described as “encouraging” open skies talks between the EU and US.
It said “genuine choices” on services from Heathrow to the US are on the horizon and urged both sides to maintain the momentum.
Talks are due to resume on November 14.
Bmi deputy chief executive Tim Bye said: “We are encouraged that both sides have approached the negotiations in a positive and constructive manner. We understand they are committed to an early phase agreement, delivering immediate liberalisation. This will enable services to the US to benefit from the same market stimulation that we have in Europe.”
Bye said there was now a “unique opportunity” to bring fresh competition to Heathrow, adding cheaper fares and increased quality will follow as a result.
“We are ready, willing and able to serve the US from our main operating base at Heathrow,” he said.
