British Airways pilot jailed for brutal killing
A British Airways pilot has just started a 26-year prison sentence after he admitted killing his estranged wife.
Robert Brown, a 47-year-old captain, bludgeoned 46-year-old Joanna Brown to death and buried her in a grave dug several weeks earlier in Windsor Great Park.
He was acquitted of her murder but admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Reading Crown Court heard that Brown beat his wife with a claw hammer on the doorstep of their home, while their children cowered inside, on October 31 last year.
Brown, of Winkfield, Berkshire, was angry that a prenuptial agreement meant that he would not be entitled to any of his millionaires wife’s fortune as part of their divorce settlement.
After her murder, Brown bundled his wife’s body into boot of his car and drove to Windsor Park where he placed her inside a plastic box from B&Q and buried her in grave he’d already dug.
He admitted manslaughter, claiming he was suffering from severe stress, and yesterday a jury cleared him of murder but convicted Brown of obstructing a coroner from holding an inquest.
