British woman missing from Cunard’s Queen Mary 2
Rescue teams have called off efforts to find an elderly British woman missing from Cunard’s Queen Mary 2.
The 74-year-old had been reported missing in the early hours of Friday.
The ship had left New York on Thursday for a 12-night Caribbean cruise and was on its way to St Maarten in the Caribbean.
The Captain turned back to assist the search but halted its efforts as night fell.
Cunard said in a statement: “It is with sadness we can confirm that after a comprehensive search, working with all relevant authorities, Queen Mary 2 has halted the search for a missing guest, presumed overboard.
“Cunard’s care team is offering every support to the family.”
The ship is now back on course to reach St Maarten on Boxing Day as scheduled.
