Britons keep on spending on holidays – report
UK consumers are continuing to spend on holidays despite economic uncertainty and a lull in high street trading, a poll claims.
The survey examining in detail how much money people intend to spend on travel abroad in the next three months has been released by the Jamaica Tourist Board.
It reveals:
*Long haul: Of those people travelling on a long haul trip, the average spend will be £972. Those people in their 40s are spending more than any age group on long haul trips – £1,145 each.
*Main holiday: Topping the national average, ‘50 some-things’ will spend more in the next three months on their main holiday of the year – £1,029 compared to the average of £863. People living in Yorkshire will spend £1,000.
*Last minute: Of those people opting for a last minute break, people will spend an average of £464 – with younger people (aged between 20-29) looking for more of a bargain and only happy to spend £304.
*Visiting family and friends: A trip to visit family and friends could prove expensive. Those people who intend to call in on friends and relations will spend an average of £251 – rising to £477 for those people living in London.
JTB UK/Northern Europe regional director Elizabeth Fox said: “It is clear that busy Britons do not want to give up their holidays, despite any financial uncertainties.
“We would advise putting some money aside each month so each holiday can be budgeted for adequately.”
