Budget airline set to head east
Low-cost carrier Ryanair is making its first foray into the potentially lucrative Eastern European market.
The Irish airline is to offer flights to Riga in Latvia from the end of October, departing from London Stansted.
A one-way ticket will cost £17.99 including taxes and the journey should take just over two and half hours.
Sinead Finn, Ryanair’s European sales and marketing manager, was quoted in a Press Association report as saying: “We got a low cost base deal in Riga. We are very aggressive when it comes to our airport deals and we go wherever the deals are good.”
Ryanair has also announced a number of other additional routes from Stansted, including a service to Santander starting on September 20 and to Zaragoza from December 1. Tickets will also cost £17.99.
The latest flights mean the airline is now operating more than 100 routes.
