While hotels are slashing prices to curb falling occupancy levels, Las Vegas hotels are still raising the dreaded resort fees.
Four Caesars Entertainment properties on the Las Vegas strip have increased their fees by a couple of dollars to $37 a night.
They are Bally’s Las Vegas, Flamingo Las Vegas, Harrah’s Las Vegas and The Linq.
With deep discounting on basic room rates, some Vegas rooms are actually being advertised at less than the nightly resort fee which effectively doubles the price.
According to Caesars it is only playing catch-up.
"The change simply brings these properties in line with their competitive set," said Caesars spokesperson Rich Broome.
Resort fees are considered as hidden fees and potentionally unlawful in many states, and multiple lawsuits have been filed .
The US Federal Trade Commission estimates that up to one in 14 US hotels now imposes some form of resort fee on top of the basic room rate.
