A second Canadian airline in just a few days has been hit with delays and disruption due to an IT glitch.
Air Canada suffered an IT system hardware failure Tuesday, resulting in cancelations in Montreal and Toronto Pearson airports.
The carrier said ‘a small handful’ of flights were scrapped due to the outage, claiming the majority of cancelations were down to adverse weather.
Airline spokeswoman Isabelle Arthur said delays occurred as agents were forced to check in passengers manually.
"We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate our customers’ patience," Arthur said.
Apart from the check in issues, the hardware failure also affected customers trying to book new flights online.
The airline later announced the glitch was resolved early in the afternoon.
Air Canada has not given any more details behind the cause of the outage or how many flights in total were cancelled as a result.
The problems come just days after Canadian carrier Porter Airlines put a ground stop on operations for more than two hours last weekend after an outage.
That caused travel disruption for about 400 passengers.
In the US similar outages are all too familiar with almost every major airline being hit by IT related interruptions over the last couple of years.
