Caribbean launch for easyCruise

Friday, 05 Jul, 2005 0

EasyCruise has confirmed it will base its ship in the Caribbean from November and has begun selling the cruises on its website.

The itinerary will begin in Barbados and call at Kingstown in St Vincent, Fort de France in Martinique, Bequia in The Grenadines, St George’s in Grenada and Castries in St Lucia.

In a further move, the company revealed it is looking to add a second ship for either summer 2006 or 2007 to sail the Greek islands.

Caribbean cruises will start on November 12 and operate until April 26 with prices starting at £9 per person per night based on two sharing. As with the Mediterranean cruise this summer, passengers can join whenever they wish subject to a two-night minimum and 14 night maximum stay.

The Caribbean cruise however will differ in that it will depart its ports of call just after midnight and arrive at the next destination at 10am. In the Med, the ship leaves at 4am and arrives at 1pm.

“Nightlife in the Caribbean tends to start and finish earlier than the Mediterranean,” the company said in a statement.

News of the itinerary emerged as the company revealed the average age of passengers on the inagural French and Italian rivieras voyage is 33, around 20 years younger than traditional cruise operators. More than 90 nationalities have booked cabins.

“Attracting younger consumers has been done through effective innovation,” the statement added. “Contrary to the norm, easyCruise stays in port every night so that passengers can hit the town and enjoy the nightlife.”

The addition of a second ship, easyCruiseTwo, is dependent on whether the company can acquire a suitable ship or whether it needs to build one from scratch.

Likely ports of call include Athens, Mykonos, Patmos, Rhodes, Heraklion Hania and Milos. The vessel would be based in the Arabian Gulf in the winter with Dubai and the United Arab Emirates among the destinations.
