Caribbean Tourism Organization closing New York office

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has announced the upcoming closure of its New York City office.

The office will close at the end of this year, and follows that with the closure of its UK office a month later.

It comes after an assessment of its operations and will include a comprehensive audit of the Barbados head office.

The organizational restructure aims to transform the CTO into ‘a lean, mean machine.’

"We are of the firm view that in order to play a stronger role in the new era of tourism development, we have to reinvent and reposition the organization as a pillar upon which tourism advancement can rest," a CTO statement said.

"This restructuring exercise is expected to significantly reduce the operational expenditures of CTO, giving it more capacity to undertake its key functions of regional marketing, statistics and research, and product development."

The changes ‘will lead to some displacement,’ the CTO acknowledged, but is necessary and will revitalize the organization.
