Carnival orders three new ships, in a new class

Carnival Corporation & plc confirmed an order for three new ships for namesake brand Carnival Cruise Line.

The order will introduce a new class of vessel, at nearly 230,000 gross tons.

The agreement with Fincantieri estimates delivery of the three LNG powered ships in 2029, 2031 and 2033, respectively.

“For this next generation ship, we are focused on creating innovative guest experiences that will take Carnival Cruise Line into the future with new FUN features,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

The new order makes five new ships announced this year.

It follows the order of two more Excel-class ships set for delivery in 2027 and 2028.

It also has more ships joining the fleet with the integration of P&O Cruises Australia into CCL.

“We are doubling down on the growth of Carnival Cruise Line – our highest-returning brand – to keep up with the incredibly strong demand,” said carnival Corp CEO, Josh Weinstein.

“This gives us the headroom to strategically provide new capacity to the brands in our portfolio.” he said.

The newest ships will have 3,000 guest staterooms, as the largest in the Carnival Corporation global fleet.

They will carry almost 8,000 guests at full capacity.

Once the final ship is delivered in 2033, Carnival Corp will have a total of 16 LNG-powered ships, including eight Carnival Cruise Line vessels.

That makes up almost 30% of Carnival Corporation’s global capacity.

The new ships will also feature advanced energy efficiency, waste management, and emission reduction tech.

Design details and itinerary information for the new ships will be announced in the future.
